Japan, the country and its people, along with numerous other honorable values, is well-known for its sense of justice and fairness in all spheres. Sumo is a great symbol of the traditions and the national identity of Japan and is considered a pinnacle of honor and fairness in the sports world. It is these attributes of Sumo – honor, fairness, and objectivity, that has brought this sport into the hearts of fans around the world. 

However, the current events have challenged this long-established honorable name of Sumo and have deviated from the long history of fairness and honor in this sport. The leaders in this sport have made decisions that are unfair, biased, and do great damage not only to the names of these individuals but to the reputation of this great sport.

These conclusions have become imminent in light of the circumstances surrounding the fight between Georgian Tochinoshin and Japanese Asanoyama on the 13th day of the current Natsu Basho – the Shimpan took an unreasonable and preposterous decision to call a Gyoji “error” and declared Asanoyama a winner in the match. This decision was unfounded and arbitrary – Shimpan did not provide any reasoning or basis of his decision, as is the tradition in such cases.

This decision, not only disadvantaged Tochinoshin in this specific fight, but also deprived him of an opportunity to win the Emperor’s Cup and put his chances of reclaiming Odzeki title under a dire threat. Simultaneously, the decision strongly benefited Asanoyama, enabling him to gain his first Yusho and become the first champion of Reiwa age.

These inviolably suspicious circumstances have led us, Georgian Sumo fans, to believe that the leaders and managers of this sport want the first Basho champion in the new, Reiwa era, to be of Japanese descent. It is our strong belief that if the champion of the tournament is unjustly and unfairly given this honorable title, this will besmirch and tarnish the reputation of the Japanese Sumo Association, and it will be so written in the history of the sport.

We, the Georgian fans of Sumo and broader Georgian society, call upon you to remedy these unjust decisions and return today’s shiroboshi to Tochinoshin. We remain hopeful that the leaders of the sport will continue to ascribe to the values of fairness and honor, that has, until now, engraved a sense of pride in fans around the world.

ამის თქმის საფუძველს გვაძლევს, მიმდინარე ნაცუ ბაშოს მე-13 დღეს ქართველ ტოჩინოშინსა და იაპონელ ასანოიამას ორთაბრძოლაში დაფიქსირებული ფაქტი, სადაც ე.წ. შიმპანმა ყოვლად გაუგებარი გადაწყვეტილება მიიღო, გიოჯის "შეცდომა" გამოაცხადა, ჩამოართვა გამარჯვება ტოჩინოშინს და ასანოიამას გადაულოცა. თანაც ეს ყველაფერი გააკეთა ისე, რომ ახსნაც კი არ დაურთო თავის გადაწყვეტილებას, რაც მსგავს ეპიზოდებს ყოველთვის თან ახლავს ხოლმე.

აღნიშნული ფაქტით გარდა იმისა, რომ ტოჩინოშინი დაზარალდა ამ კონკრეტულ ორთაბრძოლაში, მას ფაქტობრივად წაერთვა იმპერატორის თასის მოპოვების საშუალება და საფრთხე შეექმნა მისი ოძეკის წოდების დაბრუნების საკითხსაც. ასანოიამას კი ძალიან კარგი პლაცდარმი მოუმზადდა, რათა პირველი იუშო აიღოს კარიერაში და ისტორიაში შევიდეს, როგორც რეივას ეპოქის პირველი ჩემპიონი.
