After a year of planning, churning through paperwork, and endlessly responding to requirements from both the City of Sydney and Property NSW, the Pyrmont Bay Market was finally approved by the City of Sydney and was due to launch on Sunday September 1.

But Property NSW pulled the pin at the eleventh hour.  They have requested submission of a "Wind Management Plan" addressing 22 separate points before they will authorise use of Pyrmont Bay Park - the venue for the market.

This is impossible to produce in such a short time frame and organisers have been forced to cancel the market.  Stallholders have been greatly inconvenienced and the public which has clearly indicated its enthusiasm, is extremely disappointed.

The signatures on this petition call on the Premier to reign in her cumbersome state bureaucracy. Local markets in a public park offer an economic benefit for small business owners and provide a much needed gathering place for the local community. The state government should encourage and not inhibit community run markets in Pyrmont Bay Park
