Why this petition matters

Started by Clifford Berg

We feel that,

  • The Agile Manifesto contains very excellent ideas; but,
  • Some Agile practices seem extreme, and don't work for everyone (e.g., pair programming, TDD, and the open team room), yet are discussed as if they are an Agile "best practice",
  • Agile coaches don’t seem to understand developers’ challenges,
  • Agile courses don’t seem to reflect the true challenges and intricacies of Agile software development in big companies,
  • A great many Agilists don’t pay enough attention to technical things, such as design and test automation,
  • Agile - as I have experienced it - has not worked very well, and could be a-lot better.

Please stop writing books and giving training and advice that perpetuate the above problems by expanding on the same old Agile practices and extreme or overly simplistic ideas, making them more and more extreme. We need a “reboot” of Agile, that is more grounded in the realities of software development, that is informed by DevOps ideas, and that addresses the above problems.

Instead, challenge established Agile practices, and seek to re-interpret core Agile ideas in fresh ways. Don't be afraid to "shake things up"!
