My name is Nkamunu Patita, I live in the community neighboring Nairobi National Park, the park was formed in the 1940s when my ancestors foresaw the fast growing development of Nairobi. To preserve wildlife and the pastrolist way of life, the gave their precious land for the sole purpose of conserving wildlife habitat.

Nairobi National Park is located in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, and lies within the Athi-Kapiti Ecosystem. This ecosystem consists of vast open plains with a large and diverse range of species such as endangered giraffes, rhinos, lions and plains zebras, baboons, over 400+ species of birds and so much more!

Today development and fencing corridors continues to threaten this ecosystem by upcoming plans for luxury hotels, eateries, and residential houses.
This proposed “development” plan would only serve the interests of the elites, both nationally and internationally, who will directly benefit from it at the expense of local communities and generations to come!
It ignores the indigenous maasai knowledge of my ancestors through which wildlife has been conserved over thousands of years! Noting that 65% of Kenya’s wildlife exists outside the protected areas and are best conserved by these communities. It is in face because of these practices that we still have an abundance of wildlife. Sadly development has led to a drastic reduction of wildlife one such case is we used to have a 30,000+ wildebeest migration from the park in the 1960s, this has now been reduced to a mere 200. WE must not let this happen to other species.

All this must be acknowledged and the memory and cultural practices honoured by keeping the communities closer to the park.

Fencing the park will lead to inbreeding of wildlife populations, cut off livestock from accessing nutrients from salt licks and the eventual death of the ecosystem.

Any damage to the park will cause cultural and psychological damage to my community who call this place home and have very important cultural and social values attached to this land. WE love the wildlife and the whole ecosystem is a part of us!

WE have lived in these plains since time immemorial and ensured its conservation through cultural and social bonds, and traditional practices that centered have on certain wildlife species, which ensured that conservation principles became part of our way of life and this must be honored.

What happens to Nairobi National Park sets a precedent to what will happen to other indigenous lands in Kenya and Africa, join us as we put a complete HALT to any destruction of nature and our lands. Support our legal case here https://gf.me/u/x6t98a

We demand that:

NO FURTHER INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT TO TAKE PLACE IN NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK.

NO FENCING TAKE PLACE IN THE SHEEP AND GOAT LAND TO ALLOW THE COMMUNITY TO ACCESS THEIR CULTURAL RESOURCES.

The park and its corridor dispersal areas be declared a UNESCO world heritage site.
