Why this petition matters

#TourismMatters - a petition for Government action

Do you work in Ireland's tourism and hospitality industry? Do you have a friend or family member that works in a hotel, restaurant, pub, tourist attraction, or for an airline or ferry company? If so then now is your chance to show your support for one of Ireland's most important industries and its biggest regional employer.

Sign this petition and support the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation's Call to Action. Why? Because tourism matters.

Government need to recognise the importance of Irish tourism. Tourism matters because 265,000 Irish jobs matter (yes that’s 1 in 9 jobs). Tourism matters because it contributes more than €9 billion to the exchequer. Tourism matters because many rural and regional economies entirely depend on it.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic Irish tourism and hospitality is facing an enormous crisis and Government must take action now to prevent widespread job losses particularly in regional Ireland.

It need not be like this.

The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (www.itic.ie), representing tourism and hospitality business, is calling for urgent Government support to secure the sector's future. Tens of thousands of jobs can be saved if the right Government action is taken urgently, action that includes safely reopening international travel, protecting employment, providing grants, and reducing tourism Vat rates.

To add your support - and urge Government to take action - please sign this petition. Jobs, livelihoods and businesses are at stake. Thank you for your support.
