Why this petition matters

Started by Wendy Nowak

The UK government has more or less imposed a 'no-deal' brexit upon us, more chaos on top of the devastation of the current pandemic. The current shortage of HGV drivers is seriously disrupting supplies of fresh food, and also threatens to prevent supplies of life-saving meds from reaching our pharmacies. It is reported in the press that pharmacies have not been informed by government ministers of any plans to maintain these life-saving supplies. This is a violation of our Human Right to life, health and food as set out in the UN Declaration of Human Rights.  The UK government has seriously mishandled the coronavirus pandemic (deliberately?) and its performance so far in handling the driver shortage by offering EU drivers temporary visas, which they will certainly reject, casts doubt on its ability/desire to ensure that these essential supplies are maintained. These government imposed shortages are a gun pointed at the heads of every single UK resident who relies on any medication to stay alive. Those who are already on a restricted diet due to medical conditions such as heart disease or diabetes, are facing food shortages which could result in serious health issues or even death. We wish to make the UN High Commission on Human Rights and also the European Commission (but it's not your fault) aware of these potential Human Rights violations by the UK govt. Can you help us to prevent this and save lives?  We have reached the point where the  British people have no confidence in the government and no viable political opposition seems to be forthcoming.  We could soon be in desperate need of your aid if the situation deteriorates any further. .
