Dear Neighbors,

Your support is needed to help bring a dedicated dog park to the Mid-City area as part of the La Brea Tar Pits renovation (to be designed by acclaimed firm Weiss/Manfredi).  Did you know that earlier plans for a dog park were scrapped after a flawed survey failed to show enough interest from local residents? Did you know that you can do something about it? Our mission is to show overwhelming support for a brand new dog park, centrally located, to be enjoyed by dogs and their humans for generations to come.

Why here? We live the heart of the city. As one of the most densely populated and walkable areas of Los Angeles, this is an ideal location to service the large community of dog owners that live within walking distance of Museum Row. A dog park would be a valuable year round amenity that will add to the existing vibrance of our community. 

Why now? With the La Brea Tar Pits redesign plans being finalized, now is the time to make this dog park a part of our future. Our city’s housing crisis will only lead to more density in our neighborhoods, and a dog park is especially valuable for residents living in multi-unit housing that may not have access to outside space of their own. Additionally, the pandemic has dramatically altered how we live our lives. Many of us are spending more time locally, and many have used this time to adopt a new pet, adding to the local dog population. A dog park will provide a safe, outdoor space for the community to interact while their furry friends get much needed play and exercise.

What if I don’t have a dog? No problem! A dog that has proper exercise and socialization is a happy dog and will appreciate your support (and can cut down on annoying behaviors like barking).  Also, it’s fun to watch dogs play! All would be welcome to check out the dog show as you stroll the vast grounds of the La Brea Tar Pits.
