Why this petition matters

Started by Josie Tyabji

Allowing the Naramata Bench to be developed beyond the current Agricultural and rural density would forever change the look and feel of the area. It would take away from the destination as a sought after recreational area, affect wildlife, the natural abundance and ultimately affect all of the businesses in the area in a negative way.

Over the last 25 years, the community around Penticton has moved beyond primary agriculture to craft goods, incorporating all elements of food production to farmer’s markets, culinary compliments – building up into becoming world renowned for all that we produce, but also for our immense natural beauty associated with the destination. People come to Penticton to live and to visit because of what it has to offer today. It is unique and different from each of the neighbouring cities and towns.

There are numerous areas in Penticton for infill, density housing projects and other  housing opportunities that wouldn't encroach on agricultural areas or require this type of rezoning. .

The citizens of Penticton spent considerable time and effort creating the official community plan and mayor and council should follow the spirit and intent of the OCP.for all developments, especially in limited agricultural areas.

These decisions are crucial to the future of our city, our agricultural community, wine country, general business community and our South Okanagan destination.

Please take a moment to sign on to the petition so we can present to Mayor and council.
