Let’s Be Safe Rather Than Sorry!
 
Phone towers are going up all around us. In fact the next generation of mobile phone technology 5G will require ‘Macro – base station towers’ every  844 meters and ‘Small cell antennas’ every 50 – 200 meters.
 
There have been no studies on the cumulative effects of the 5G RF spectrum. [1] 
 
By signing this petition, you are calling on the South Australian Government to use the Precautionary Principle, in calling for an immediate pause to the 5G rollout in residential areas of South Australia and in particular,  an immediate halt to the current Development Proposal to build a 31.3 metre phone tower at the rear of the Grange Bowling Club, 11 Wilson Court, Grange 5022 until 2024, when ongoing studies from the following agencies into cancer risks of radiofrequency (RF) radiation have been published.
 
Only then will the government of South Australia be able to determine what potential health impacts could constitute risks to public health.

World Health Organisation (WHO) is currently “conducting a health risk assessment from exposure to radiofrequencies, covering the entire radiofrequency range, including 5G, to be published by 2022” [3] This is to include studies on “adverse reproductive outcomes…” [4] “… in particular impaired male fertility and adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes…” [5]

Work plan to overcome data gaps. ICNIRP recognised that there were some gaps in knowledge when formulating its guidelines.
 
 Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) 
ARPANSA EME Program Action Plan 2020-2024 “… outlines the activities and associated advice on EME and health that will be delivered by ARPANSA during 2020-2024…” [7] Scope: “… research priorities on RF EME and health within the frequencies of 100 KHz to 300 GHz.” [8]
 
The Australian standards for outdoor pulsed RF radiation limits are 10 – 100 times higher [9] than most of the European countries, Russia and China. As South Australians are already subjected to these higher limits, and if the above studies prove to have detrimental effects on our health, the Public Health system will have at least 5 years of burgeoning ill health to deal with.
 
35 countries or constituents thereof  have taken precautionary measures against 5G. [10]  Other countries not mentioned in the above are: Wales [11]   Papua New Guinea [12]   US [13]   Bulgaria [14] [15] Russia [16]   Switzerland [17]   Guernsey [18]  Cyprus [19]  
 
If the 5G roll out continues before these studies are published, there is the potential, perceived or otherwise, for at least 5 years of continuous day and night (24/7) irradiation harm to the people of South Australia. This could lead to possible irreversible, long term damage to the population’s physical and mental wellbeing.
 
Did you know that the roll out of 5G requirements include?
 
• 5G requires Telecoms to have macro cell towers (mobile base station) every 844m. [20] [21] [22]
• 5G requires Telecoms to have small cells every 50 - 200m. [23]
• 5G requires over 20,000 HAP satellites above the present ones to connect globally [24] [25] [26]
• 5G requires Federal Government auctions of the high band 26 GHz in April 2021 [27]: Adelaide will have 12 lots up for auction. [28]  Despite no studies into cumulative effects of the RF radiation spectrum.
The higher spectrum frequencies and shorter waves have had known effects on humans, bees and insects since 1974. [29] [30]
 
In the past the evidence of harm from Electromagnetic Radiation to humans and the environment has been conflicted. Recent studies [31] [32] [33] [34] [35] [36] [37] are showing that it is difficult to prove that RF emissions are safe for human health. The WHO and its associated bodies have considered that thermal heating is the only side effect of RF radiation. However, ongoing independent studies have increasing evidence of brain cancers, neoplasms and central nervous system diseases.
 
Particularly at risk are children: The Presidential Cancer Panel (2010) found that children ‘are at special risk due to their smaller body mass and rapid physical development, both of which magnify their vulnerability to known carcinogens, including radiation’. [38]
 
We ask, based on the Precautionary Principle from the SA Health Act, 2011 – the South Australian Government to protect the community from “physical or psychological harm, or potential harm”, to promote “health and well-being of individuals and communities”, to prevent “medical conditions and injuries of public health significance” and take “into account the interests of future generations.”
 
Telecommunication companies appear to have failed to comply with their duty to minimise any harm to public health by their persistent speeding up of the roll out of 5G technology, despite the ever increasing evidence that RF radiation has health consequences. In light of ongoing studies, they appear not to have considered any environmental implications or any degrees of risk that may be involved or the nature, extent and duration of any harm.
 
Surely, the burden of proof must be on the telecommunications industry and the government to show that RF radiation does not negatively impact human health, and the environment, through rigorous and independent research and the duty of SA Public Health is to utilise the Precautionary Principle to protect the people of SA until such research exists.
