Support for Jarel Robinson Brown
Support for Jarel Robinson Brown
Why this petition matters
In her most recent statement concerning Jarel Robinson-Brown, the Bishop of London failed conspicuously to give him sufficient support for his perfectly reasonable tweet concerning the white British nationalists who cynically use the late Captain Tom Moore to further their white British racist narrative, and who, since Jarel's tweet, have fuelled a racist and homophobic hate campaign to have him removed from his position in the Church of England. The Bishop rightly condemned the abuse of, and the threats towards Jarel, but must withdraw her statement and replace it with one that also unequivocally condemns the manner in which white British nationalists have used Tom Moore, and the clap for Tom Moore, to further their racist aims. Jarel was correct, and Bishop Mullally should have immediately and fully supported Jarel 's tweet, not undermined him, especially since the Church claims to condemn racism in all its forms . The Church must, by issuing a strongly worded statement, re-set its process of challenging racism both within the Church and in British Society. Failing to do so will cause the Church to undermine its own recent progress and credibility on racism. As a member of the Church I call on all Church Members, whether Clergy or Laity, to support this petition, and I call, too, for all in our society who support racial justice to join us in signing.
