Stop Childrens Services Neglecting Duty of Care to Vulnerable Parents
Why this petition matters
Her only crime was being a victim of childhood sexual abuse, having epilepsy, learning difficulties, and poor mental health including postpartum psychosis. On these grounds Childrens Services deemed her unfit to parent her baby daughter Hope, who is now in foster care and likely to be adopted. This young mother desperately loved and wanted her baby. She was offered little or no options to develop the skills to parent her child. And Childrens Services ensured no duty of care was offered to this vulnerable parent.
Being a parent is a massive responsibility, ensuring that a child grows and develops into a healthy and well adjusted human being. Sadly for a range of reasons (often out of their control) some parents are not capable of meeting this gigantic task, without support. "Learning disabled parents are the only group with a perceived risk from the start. They go through a process where they have to prove they can parent rather than an assessment of what support they need to parent."
Discriminated parents are being set up to fail, silenced out of fear. It is time to speak out against Childrens Services. Reduce the numbers of children in care. And work to keep children in the loving homes of their biological families.
