High School Senior Year. The final chapter in a 12 year run leading to a whole new world. Adulthood. College. Voting. Missions. Joining Armed Forces. Trade School. The options are endless. But for the class of 2020, they had the rug pulled out from under them. 
Little did they know that the last day they finished their work and went home for the day back in March, that it would be their last. The last time they ruled the halls.The last time they high five-d a friend as they headed to their next class. The last time they would sit in that familiar seat and learn from their favorite teacher. The last time they'd wear their spirit gear and cheer for their home team. Senior year as they knew it, was over. 
The halls are vacant and silent. High fives are not allowed. Desks remain empty. The teacher-student relationship stopped in its track. The bleachers are bare, never again to hold of the boisterous senior class of 2020 at the final home game. 
Prom gowns and suits under themed party lights.  The infamous Senior trip, the outing of all outings. More memories they are not afforded to make. 

But the most exhilarating of all the experiences a senior will have is the moment they proudly walk across the stage to receive their diploma.  They have anticipated this moment their entire lives. So have the proud parents. 
Many of these amazing students cannot wait for a later date. Some are leaving right away for the Armed Forces or on a religious mission to serve God. Some families are having to relocate. And sadly for some, they have an ill parent or other loved one who has been holding on for this day.   
Above all else these students have been loyal to their education with the encouraging vision of reaching for that diploma and tossing their caps in the air. We cannot deny them this.
Governor Newsom, and do not deny them this.
The emotional struggles have been spirit-breaking and in some instances, suicidal. We must stay loyal to these beautiful children and see this through. We can do better, safely, and meet this moment.
