Westchester Community College's Plastic Ban
Westchester Community College's Plastic Ban
Why this petition matters
We want to end plastic waste on campus! Plastic is the second most common material found in landfills. And over 70% of plastic bottles are not recycled, and end up in the ocean or in landfills. These plastics take over 450 years to decompose! Lets voice our opinions as students, and demonstrate how important this issue is for us. Initiatives to end plastic waste include:
-Replacing disposable materials in the cafeteria with reusable ones, and anything that cannot be reusable into compostable materials.
-Placing more water bottle refill stations on campus to encourage using reusable bottles.
-Replacing soda vending machines with soda fountains.
-Outreach to involve and educate students and staff on sustainable practices and recycling.
Targeting these sources of waste production on campus will not only greatly reduce the amount of litter on school grounds, but it will also eliminate a vast amount of trash going to land fills. Lets take action!
