Why this petition matters

Started by Say it Loud

The Say it Loud team strongly believes that the University of Salford well-being team should have a higher level of training in sexual trauma. This involves: being able to support those who have experienced sexual violence, being able to support them in telling loved ones what has happened to them, signposting them to appropriate crisis teams (not just the same services each time) as well as being able to support an individual in processing sexual trauma.

We have decided to petition on the behalf of students who have bravely spoken out to us about their experiences with how staff at UOS have treated them. For one student, in particular, Harriet was left months without any support in how to deal with the consequences of sexual violence and has been made to sit in a classroom with her perpetrator. When Harriet reached out to the UOS, she was told that they had 'tried emailing' her perpetrator but he hadn't responded, therefore, they 'do not know for sure' if she will be in classes with him.

This is exceptionally damaging and dangerous. Like Harriet, many other students have been let down. We are fighting for their voices to be heard.
