Female representation in video gaming is coming to new heights. More games are becoming more open to having powerful female characters, as well as putting women in less distressful positions. Fighting games are no exception. And Smash Bros is in a dire spot, especially for its DLC content.

Most of the current DLC has been male-coded. However, female representation is lacking. One could argue that Banjo-Kazooie is a counterargument to this, as Kazooie is female. However, the petition is asking for a fully-fledged, 100% female, playable fighter. While the base roster does a good job with its female representation, it is quite lacking in terms of its additional content.

This is more of an industry problem per se, as Smash is a celebration of gaming history. Much of gaming history has been tailored towards males, hence, why there are more males on the DLC roster. While this is the case, it would be disappointing to see no further female characters. There are so many popular female picks to choose for Smash Ultimate, and most of them are highly-requested (Shantae, Jill Valentine, Reimu Hakurei, etc.). Not having them would be a waste of potential, as an all-male DLC roster will surely not please some fans.

As such, this petition aims to have Masahiro Sakurai, as well as Nintendo, put a female fighter to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC. Just one will be enough, but more would be pleasing to see. There are more characters coming as DLC, and it would be a shame to not see any females.
