Why this petition matters

Started by Beth Morris

This is a petition to get Hertfordshire Police and all council members of Broxbourne Bourough to address and conduct an official investigation into the hate speech that occurred at the counter protest to the Black Lives Matter peaceful protest in Broxbourne on Monday 8th June.

There is an overwhelming amount of video evidence online showing these people making monkey noises, shouting “go back to Africa” and other racial slurs. As well as personally insulting protestors on their physical appearance. The protestors were socially distancing and protesting peacefully, however the people stood by the war memorial were regularly baiting the protestors to fight them. Needless to say what occurred there was hate speech and racism.

Section 18 of the public order act 1986 clearly states;

A person who uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, is guilty of an offence if—

(a) he intends thereby to stir up racial hatred, or
(b) having regard to all the circumstances racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby.

Despite having police officers mere feet from the abusive persons no arrests have been made and no investigation into the racist rhetoric or the complacency of Hertfordshire police has been conducted.

We call for Andreas Payne, Aran Banks, David Holliday, Keith Brown, Ken Ayling, Lyn White, Paul Mason, Sherrie Mcdaid and Steve Wortley to not only condemn the hate speech that occurred but to order Broxbourne and Hertfordshire Police to conduct and investigation into the enforcement failings and to identify the counter protestors who spoke such hate.

Hate Speech is a crime.

We call for justice.
