Kenner’s Star Wars 3.75 inch action figure line in the ’70s and ’80s was a phenomenal success. It became the gold standard for what an action figure line should look like with its wide range of heroes, villains, and background characters. However, many fans of this highly successful action figure line would argue that the line wasn't expansive enough; and that it left out versions of several key characters and fan favorites.  

In the '90s, Hasbro took over the mantle for making Star Wars figures by producing newer, more modern versions of the toys many of us loved as children. Hasbro dove deeper and deeper into Lucasfilm's vast pool of original trilogy characters, giving children and collectors alike, many never-before-made figures. Hasbro dug much deeper than Kenner could have ever imagined and that deep dive left many fans and collectors wondering what the original vintage line might have looked like had they given us even more characters.

Even customizers wondered what an expanded Kenner line might have looked like. With the original Kenner line finished and no return in sight, these talented artists took matters into their own hands by customizing and selling versions of their favorite original trilogy characters. Still, none of their work pales in comparison to the magical work that Kenner did. 

2019 gave kids and collectors A NEW HOPE! At the Toy Fair, Hasbro revealed the new Retro Collection and their very first reveal was a Grand Moff Tarkin figure. Tarkin was one of the most glaring omissions from the original Kenner line so when it was revealed out of nowhere, along with 7 characters from Kenner's original 12 (and one prototype figure), most kids and collectors interpreted it as Hasbro's attempt to finally remake the Kenner line with a robust amount of never-before-made (in the Kenner line) figures. This gave us hope that figures like Han (Stormtrooper), Rebel Fleet Trooper, Bith Cantina Band Members, Wedge, Leia as Jabba's Prisoner, among others would finally be made.
