Stop the Bedfordshire Bus Cuts!
Stop the Bedfordshire Bus Cuts!
Why this petition matters
Central Bedfordshire Council are slashing local bus services between Biggleswade, Sandy and the surrounding villages such as Potton.
From the 30th September the council are planning to cut the 85/85A Biggleswade town service by over 50% and slashing early morning services on the 188/190 bus routes between Potton, Sandy, Dunton and Biggleswade.
Central Bedfordshire already has one of the poorest bus services in the country and these cuts have been planned in spite of the Council's own Equality Impact assessment stating that the cuts will have a significant effect on elderly and disabled people.
Central Bedfordshire Council stated that they are committed to public transport and James Jamieson, the leader of the Council, says he understands how bus cuts can cause isolation. Actions speak louder than words!
We need more buses not more cuts to support the most vulnerable in our society and make buses a viable option for commuters to reduce our reliance on the car.
We are demanding the following:
- A fresh and thorough consultation on the proposed cuts so the community can have their say, including public meetings as well as surveys
- A halt to the bus cuts until this has taken place
- A sustained publicity campaign by Central Bedfordshire Council to promote bus use across Bedfordshire.
If you support the above aims please sign and share the petition.
