Why this petition matters

Started by Alpha Paw

Help us protect innocent pets from being slaughtered for dog meat in North Korea.

North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong Un has placed a ban on pet ownership, forcing pet owners to hand their dogs over to the ruthless regime. As we speak, North Korean officials are rounding up all the pet dogs in the nation’s capital to sell them to the dog meat trade.

Pet dogs over 30 lbs are being forcibly confiscated in order to supply Pyongyang restaurants with meat. In exchange for handing over their loyal best friends, pet owners get a measly certificate that allows them to be reimbursed with oil and rice on October 10th.

In North Korean culture, dogs are seen as symbols of wealth, extravagance, and bourgeois ideology. At least, that’s the falsehood Kim Jong Un is hiding behind to fuel this blatant campaign of animal cruelty. This is the reality: North Korea is enduring a food shortage crisis that’s affecting up to 60% of the population. The country also has a propensity for eating dog meat. This is a deadly combination that’s transforming our loyal companions into viable food source options. By rounding up the pet dogs of the elite and selling them to restaurants with dog meat on the menu, this merciless move solves one of Kim Jong Un’s biggest problems: the nation’s food shortage crisis.

As pet parents and dog owners ourselves, our team at Alpha Paw refuses to stand by and watch this happen. We made a promise to help dogs in need, and we’re not going down without a fight.

That’s why we’re calling on all the dog lovers and pet owners of the world to join us in our battle to end the dog meat trade. Our collective voice is too loud to ignore! Together, we are unstoppable.

Are you a devoted pet parent or dog lover? Do you stand in solidarity with animal rights advocates? Do you agree the time has come to stop the practice of slaughtering dogs for their meat? If so, we need your support!

We’re presenting this petition to representatives in both the U.S. and North Korea, urging them to end the animal cruelty taking place in North Korea as we speak. We’re also matching petitions with donations to nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping dogs who continue to suffer at the hands of the dog meat trade in Korea. Add your signature to our petition today to join the fight for animal rights and help dogs in need!

The time has come to shut down Korean dog meat farms once and for all.
