Why this petition matters

Started by Leanne Tlhagoane

Campaign to create a GBV dashboard of stats and information in South Africa.

The future doesn't change if we don't.

Let's acknowledge this Women’s Day of 2020 by using it to activate inspired action around the single biggest challenge in South Africa involving women, that being Gender Based Violence.

Support the demand for the President of the Republic of South Africa to create a similar COVID-19 reporting type ‘dashboard’ for GBV stats, data and information now. A dashboard that highlights key information, the hotspot areas, the types of incidences , safety info, and where justice has prevailed etc.

In this way the GBV issue remains front and centre of our national issues. Let's build  momentum to increase awareness, education and solutions to end GBV.

64 years ago today, women gathered to protest injustice and have since made the 9 August a day to raise their voices and break the silence against many issues including violence, abuse and rape.

Women in South Africa have long been suffering. And still today in 2020 our current lived experience is trapped in a scourge of the worst kind of violence and fear. We all know and feel it -deeply- in the names and memories of Uyinene Mrwetyana and Tshegofatso Pule, and all the victims both known and unknown.

Enough.

Take a stand.

Government has shown us that it has the capabilities and the resources.

Now it’s time to show the WILL to LEAD and to ACT to end GBV.

Demand action Now.
