Re: A Petition to Edison Municipal Council
To Sir/Madam:
We, the undersigned, demand the Council’s immediate action by removing Edison Councilman Samip Joshi as Vice-President of the Municipal Council and as liaison to Edison Library Board of Trustees.
We respectfully submit that in his capacity as Vice President of the Edison Municipal Council and Liaison to Edison Library Board, in our opinion, Mr. Joshi has betrayed the trust of Edison residents through the following conduct:
1. Mr. Joshi made several calls to pressure library director Jane Jiang to hire his friend as the library accountant. He was admonished for these actions by the attorney for the Board. Ms. Jiang was fired in Dec 2019 after she refused his repeated request; https://www.tapinto.net/towns/edison/sections/government/articles/edison-councilman-samip-joshi-admonished-not-to-interfere-with-hiring-decisions
2. He demanded that the Library board to move the reserved funds to BCB Bank, a bank that is not an authorized vendor for the Township. Mr. Joshi did not deny that he made this recommendation due to personal friendships with individuals employed at the bank when asked about the issue at its February 24 meeting.
3. After his attempts to move funds to the unauthorized bank was opposed by board treasurer David Ye, Mr. Joshi proposed a resolution to remove Mr. Ye from the Library Board.
4. As a library board liaison, Mr. Joshi missed 40% of library meetings in 2019 and 50% of the meetings in 2018
5. Oversaw the hiring of a Library Director, Timur Davis, who pled guilty to the federal crime of making false statements in connection to a HUD Community Development Block Grant, and gave Mr. Davis the responsibility of applying for a grant for Edison.
Mr. Joshi is an elected official who has failed in his capacity as Council Vice President and as Liaison to the Library Board. His actions have been unprofessional and unethical.
