Late Thursday evening, Rob Elgas, a reporter for Chicago's ABC 7 News, reported what many of us had already knew: Empire star Jussie Smollett was a liar. 

Elgas tweeted, "Multiple soucres tell @ABC7Chicago Eyewitness News Jussie Smollet and the 2 men [both African-American] who are being questioned by police staged the attack"

His motivation? According to Elgas, it was due to Smollett's character being written out of Empire.

These new revelations are in stark contrast to what Smollett had initially told police: that two white men had attacked him, yelling "This is MAGA country!", along with a slew of racial slurs. 

However, we now know this to be untrue. 

Jussie alleged that he was attacked due to his racial identity and sexual orientation. We now know this to be untrue.

Jussie alleged that he was attacked by two white men. We now know this to be untrue. 

Jussie alleged that this attack was linked to his ardent opposition to the Trump Administration. We now know this to be untrue.

But here is what we do know to be true: Jussie Smollett not only lied, but he sought to perpetuate the tired, old narrative that all Trump supporters are racist bigots.

It is now time for Jussie to be held accountable and face criminal prosecution for the lies he told, the millions of Trump supporters he defamed through the means of association, and the drain he caused on the investigative resources of the Chicago Police Department.
