Why this petition matters

Started by The Sunbed Association

Tanning Salons represent a non-contact service environment and were grouped in lockdown (but not listed) with beauty, hair and other salon style businesses in the Roadmap for re-opening in England at Step 3 which is 4th July.

A sunbed session is taken in isolation in a locked cubicle that is cleaned before/after every use.  All social distancing measures and hygiene protocols are easily employed in a tanning salon to ensure it is a COVID-19 Secure environment for staff and customers.  There is no physical contact between tanning salon staff and customers in taking a sunbed session.

As a result of industry lobbying Government has acknowledged that tanning salons are not close contact. Yet the updated Regulations has listed tanning salons as a business type that cannot open on July 4th -  no explanation, no justification, no logic.

On what basis can Government justify a close-contact service such as hairdressers re-opening on 4th July along with pubs, cinemas and restaurants, but state that tanning salons cannot?  We want Government departments to have joined up thinking and for the Prime Minister to hear us and allow tanning salons in England to open on 4th July.

If you want to support your local tanning salon and get back to responsible tanning on 4th July, please sign this petition now!
