Why this petition matters
Maurice Gordon was a 28 year old Jamaican-born black man living in Poughkeepsie NY. He was a jovial person, always laughing and talking about interesting topics. He also loved music and Ariana Grande. He was a chemistry student and a part-time Uber driver.
On May 23, 2020 at 6:30 a.m. after a routine traffic stop by state troopers, he was pulled over on the Garden State Parkway for allegedly speeding. When the white officer told him to move his car it wouldn't start. He then asked them if he could wait by their car while they called him a tow truck. The unidentified trooper patted him down and took him to the backseat of the police car to wait for the tow truck. He was UNARMED and NOT UNDER ARREST, just waiting. After 45 mins of waiting he tried to leave the car but he was met with excessive physical force. He was shot several times, thrown to the grown and bled out on the pavement. The troopers then handcuffed him afterwards.
The investigators refused to release further information on his death and only showed the lawyer edited footage (which had no sign of provocation or resisting). After the shooting, the video shows two troopers handcuffing Gordon before seeking medical help. This Police won’t say whether Gordon died on the scene or at the hospital which raises more suspicions.
This happened 2 days before George Floyd's murder and we didn't hear much about it. Another murder that took place under our noses. He did not leave Jamaica to have his life taken away from him.
The people demand answers!!! We need JUSTICE for Maurice!! RELEASE THE INFORMATION ON HIS DEATH. The brutality and corruption needs to stop!
