As Illinois citizens continue to abide by the Governor's shelter-in-place mandate, evidence shows we are "flattening the curve" of COVID cases in our state. However, there continues to be confusion as to what activities are and are not allowed outdoors, particularly as weather improves and temperatures rise. Rationale provided to citizens as to why some public parks remain open while state golf courses do not is confusing and contradictory at best.

Golf is an excellent source of exercise that citizens of all ages can enjoy while also practicing appropriate social distancing guidelines. Neighboring states like Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana continue to allow golf courses to remain open with strict guidelines and course alterations (removal of rakes in bunkers, raised cups, etc.). In fact, as of April 10th, 32 states continue to allow golf on their courses.

As a solution what we ask is the following:

Allow golf courses to stay open.
Payment must take place electronically.
Club houses will NOT remain open.
Flag sticks will NOT be touched or removed while putting.
Holes will be placed two inches above the ground so no one touches a hole.
No golf carts will be allowed.
All rules of social distancing must be followed.
