Why this petition matters

Started by Simeon Mihailov

This year Samsung said at Unpacked in August that they will support all flagship phones from the Galaxy S10 onward with 3 major Android OS updates compared to the 2 they give now. This petition's aim is to get Samsung to reconsider adding the Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note9 smartphones to this new upgrade policy as well.

Seeing that the Galaxy Note10 Lite has the exact same processor and RAM configurations as the Galaxy Note9 there is no problem to support the older flagship as well. And even though the Galaxy S9 has "only" 4 GB RAM that should be plenty for Android 11 and OneUI 3.0.

An important fact to add is that the Galaxy Note9 came with Android 8.1 out of the box back in August 2018 and received Android 9 a few weeks later. This sadly counts as a major Android OS upgrade even though Samsung could have delayed the launch of the Galaxy Note9 by a few weeks and release it with Android 9 out of the box. If that was the case then it would be eligible for Android 11 as that would have been its second and last major Android OS upgrade.

Also Google's Project Treble is supported on all devices that came with Android Oreo out of the box - which includes the 2018 flagship models.

Last but not least for many people the Galaxy Note9 and S9 series phones were one of the best ones Samsung has ever made so it's a shame for them not to receive Android 11 even though they are more than capable of handling it properly.
