Why this petition matters

Started by Catherine Huffman

Pastor James Coates of Gracelife Church in Parkland County, Alberta, has been imprisoned for holding ordinary worship services.
After months of persistent bullying from police and AHS, Pastor James stood in the pulpit on February 14, and delivered a powerful, well-articulated message, both exhorting his church and challenging the government of Alberta to protect the rights of Albertans and to repent and believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Two days later, as ordered by police, James Coates went to the police station and turned himself in, leaving his wife and children and home for a jail cell.
In his trial, he was given only one way to avoid jail. He was ordered to stop holding church services and forbidden from setting foot on the church property, a property which is owned, not by the state, but by their own church!
Pastor James has refused to comply with these extreme requirements, choosing rather to stand by his church for the good of his people. And for this reason, he remains in jail. At this point there are 4 things that can happen. 1) Comply (He refused) 2) The Crown releases him 3) The appeal goes through 4) a trial.
This is insanity. This pastor has been imprisoned for simply doing what Scripture calls on pastors to do: caring for the church. He was simply exercising his constitutional rights.
The Alberta Government needs to be taken to task for this. We, the people, have to say, "No!"
Pastor James called out the Alberta Government and was imprisoned. This is tyranny.
Tell the Alberta Goverment we will not be bullied.
