Why this petition matters

Started by Newport Action Group

Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) are currently considering a Development Application to build a Six Storey Tower in the middle of the established residential suburb of  Newport; on land that is currently zoned to enable marina operation and associated businesses/services.

We need our Marine Industry Land.

The Redcliffe Peninsula is surrounded by water and the population is growing rapidly - particularly in those approved higher density areas being developed now.

Many of these new residents will look forward to boating in our beautiful location - the loss of Marine Industry Land will be an irreversible mistake.

The proposed tower is to contain apartments, food and drink outlets(including alcohol), retail shops, and commercial offices - similar to many such residential towers already built or under construction in appropriately zoned areas of our Peninsula.
At approximately 24 m height the tower will loom over the surrounding 8.5 m houses and have a huge impact on the character and amenity of the established low-rise suburb. It is also beyond any reasonable expectation the existing residents could have anticipated for development in such a scenic and peaceful area - apart from the fact that such a Development Conflicts With All Current Applicable Zoning
