Save London Pubs, Raise The Old Justice Pub SE16
Why this petition matters
We want to save and preserve the Grade 2 listed pub, The Old Justice of 94 Bermondsey Wall East, SE16. This 1930’s built public house is currently at threat from developers with disregard for the social value of a local community asset. With support we can help bring this building back into service for the people of Southwark and beyond, with a pledge to assist local charity groups, and care for the local community, by the local community.
A building of note by famous interwar architect Sidney C Clark, the pub has had starring roles in Sir Paul McCartney’s film Give My Regards to Broad Street , the music video for his hit No More Lonely Nights and the pilot episode of cult London TV series of the 70’s The Sweeney. Just yards from the Thames Path and in a part of London familiar to the likes of Dickens, Shakespeare and Marlowe, this “Tudorbethan” gem of a pub has long served it’s locale but has recently fallen into the hands of profit driven developers but has a chance of restoration to it’s former service with your help.
We have also conducted extensive community research which shows the overall majority of the neighbourhood want to see their pub back. From this borne the idea of an Assets of Community Value: Unincorporated Nomination Form, which requires a signature list of at least 21 people (separate households) who appear on the electoral roll within the local authority to list the pub as an Asset of Community Value. We were inundated with over 100 signatures and still are offered many more hence the change.org petition to give more people from both in and out of Southwark the chance to add their voice.
