Dear Senator Bernie Sanders,

We, the undersigned, are calling on your support for a General Strike to demand urgently needed action that will relieve American workers during this pandemic and beyond.

As you may already know, the developing nation of Vietnam has been able to heroically abate the spread of COVID-19 by providing free testing, healthcare, food, shelter, and a cash stipend to every human being who may have been exposed to the disease. There is no reason that the United States of America, the richest country in the world, should not be providing this same standard of care and support for every person in our nation.

In contrast, the United States of America - the wealthiest nation on Earth - has been grossly unprepared and irresponsible when it comes to preparing for and responding to this pandemic, with no sign of relief in sight.

Millions of Americans are uninsured or underinsured and unable to take time off of work even if they have symptoms of COVID-19. Even before the pandemic, millions of Americans have suffered from homelessness, food insecurity, and poverty - even when working full time jobs.

We know that you also believe in the providing every American with a living wage, and mandatory paid sick leave. Had these programs already been in place when this pandemic hit, workers would be much safer and empowered to protect ourselves, shelter in place, and seek urgently needed care in this time of crisis.

We believe that the only way to get the wealthy elites who dominate the USA to pay attention is by withholding our labor until they relent and give in to our demands of urgent response to COVID-19, paid sick leave, universal healthcare, and a living wage.

We believe that the lack of an appropriate response and basic human rights like universal healthcare and paid sick leave constitute genocide via neglect of some of the most vulnerable members our society. After all, the chronically ill, the immunocompromised, the elderly, and the poor and uninsured are the most likely to suffer and die because of this pandemic.

While many of us want very much to see you take office as president of the United States to fight for the rights and security of the American worker, we believe it is possible, prudent, and urgent that we all act NOW. And we believe your voice and leadership would be a powerful contribution to our movement.

And so, we are advocating for a General Strike in which all non-essential labor is withheld until the following demands are met:

-Universal Healthcare as outlined in your own campaign plan.
-A living wage of at LEAST $15/hour for every human being in the USA.
-PERMANENT Paid Sick Leave for all workers in the USA.
-Free testing, healthcare, food, shelter, and cash stipends for every human being in the USA who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
