Why this petition matters

Started by Dave Ruch

Clarence "Cito" Gaston was an above average MLB outfielder for San Diego and Atlanta from 1967-78, being a 1970 All Star. He rose to greater prominence in baseball as the manager for the Toronto Blue Jays. He worked with them for two stints, from 1989-97 then 2008-10. In that time he not only set their club record for most winning games for a manager but was running the team for two World Series championships in 1992-93. Only Joe Torre has more WS championships since then.  This makes Cito one of the most effective baseball managers through the past thirty years and, some think it's worth noting, the only African American manager to win a World Series.

Cito's ties to Texas are that he was born and raised in San Antonio and still apparently lives there. He clearly belongs in the sports hall for the state.
