Protect Goethe State Forest from Toll Road Expansion
Protect Goethe State Forest from Toll Road Expansion
Why this petition matters
Don’t Let Turnpike Extensions Impact the Goethe Forest
The Suncoast Corridor will be a new toll highway designed to help with evacuation and transportation from the Gulf Coast of Florida northward. The Florida Department of Transportation is now considering many routes for this highway. Now is the time to tell them that we want to Goethe Forest to remain untouched! Right now, any of the roads through the forest (including the Jeep roads) are under consideration to be turned into a major highway. If this happens, wildlife habitats will be fragmented and so will one of the best equestrian trail systems and multi-use recreation areas in North Florida.
As you can see from the map, the dark pink areas are designated as "Will Not Impact" which means that the new road will not go there. The light pink areas are "No New Roads" which means that existing roads could be used and widened. The other areas are not restricted. The Goethe Forest and its surrounding roads are mostly light pink. Our goal is to express our desire that they be designated dark pink "Will Not Impact."
If you have enjoyed the Goethe Forest, whether you live in Florida OR NOT, you may sign this petition. Also please email LevyBOCC@LevyCounty.org and tell them how much you enjoy recreating in this forest.
Donations are not requested - only your signature. Please do not donate at this time. Thank you!
