Dear NAC members,

I have had the opportunity to read and understand the summary provided by the NAC on the Equal Opportunities Bill (EOB).

I believe that the civil rights of all Belizeans need to be respected and protected by the Laws of Belize, our citizens, and every person in Belize. Respect for each other and for human rights is the foundation of our democracy.

The categories of protected rights in the EOB are broad and inclusive and reflect a new approach to understanding and respecting the rights of all. In my view, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Tribunal which are proposed, are necessary to protect my rights and those of my fellow Belizeans.

In the same way that religious freedom is respected by the EOB, and rightly so, I believe that my human dignity and my inalienable rights as guaranteed by the Constitution of Belize must be respected and safeguarded regardless of what protected category or categories that I come under. This bill is necessary to end discrmination in Belize.

By way of this petition, I pledge my full support for the Equal Opportunities Bill 2020 and I would like to see this Bill passed into law in Belize, as soon as possible.
