“On May 20th of 2020, I filed a grievance form due to the outrageous commissary prices and vertical price fixing, let it be stated that both neighboring counties also have a contract with the same vendor/distributor “Keefe” and these counties offer the same exact items at a much lower price to its inmate population. San Mateo County is by far said one of the richest counties in California and America. So why is it over charging it’s inmates on their basic living essentials? Going way above market value price?

In response to this matter, the supervisor stated “San Mateo has a contract with ‘Keefe’”, yet they have the same items at a lower price even numbered the same at San Francisco County. That itself shows prices are negotiable, what we, the inmates, demand is for San Mateo County to renegotiate it’s contract with “Keefe” to lower prices! What we are asking for is within reason. With the COVID-19 pandemic it’s hard on our families to support us. Specially with prices so high, all we want is reasonable prices. Please take us into consideration, for we are the ones purchasing these products.
