SUPPORT LOCAL VOICES IN PECKHAM TOWN CENTRE REDEVELOPMENT

Important questions about the current plans for the Aylesham Centre site have not yet been answered and more time is needed to devise ways for local people to understand the plans and make meaningful comments.

We are concerned the current scheme does not respond to Peckham’s people and sense of place because:

• The consultation has been very inadequate.
• It is out of character with its community.
• It does not meet local housing needs.
• It is too big.

THEREFORE, WE PETITION SOUTHWARK COUNCIL AND TIGER DEVELOPMENTS TO:

WORK WITH LOCAL PEOPLE TO DEVELOP A MEANINGFUL CONSULTATION PROCESS AND GIVE PEOPLE THE INFORMATION WE NEED AND ENOUGH TIME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS PROPOSED.

Background information
Tiger Developments is preparing a proposal for the redevelopment of the Aylesham Centre, in the heart of Peckham town centre. The changes will affect thousands of residents and hundreds of local businesses and change the character of the local economy and the town centre. The developers have provided only a few weeks for comments in August, during the holiday season, and while local people are still suffering or not yet recovered from the Covid-19 health emergency and lockdown.
