Mass Trespass started here, don't let it finish here
Why this petition matters
New Mills in the High Peak was the start of the 1932 Mass Trespass on Kinder, the start of the Right to Roam changes to the law, inspiring the beginning of our National Parks.
The Manchester Rambler iconic song about the trespass captures the essence of having the freedom to roam, and to sleep with your rucksack for a pillow, leaving no trace on the land.
The Conservative Party manifesto states its wish to make the act of trespass a criminal offence where police could seize property of people camping out in the long tradition of quiet and gentle wild camping. Don't make people criminals for making a wild camp, drinking coffee while watching the sun rise over the High Peak.
We are asking the conservative MP for the High Peak, Robert Largan to ensure trespass legislation does not interfere with our harmless enjoyment of the land. We have homeless people in the High Peak who rely on tents in hidden places to survive, please don't add a criminal offence to their already difficult lives.
