Grandfathering Tobacco Buying Age
Grandfathering Tobacco Buying Age
Why this petition matters
The US officially raises the tobacco buying age to 21. Adults (18) Who have already hit the age to legally buy tobacco products of any kind have been greatly restricted. This petition will be spread across the U.S to the people who feel like their rights are being taken away, and feel that it’s unlawful that the people who have already hit the legal age of 18 aren’t being grandfathered in to this new law, and rights are being constricted. People who have been this age for months or a certain amount of time that have consumed tobacco of any kind, (cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, any nicotine) will be largely affected.
Grandfather Clause:
“A provision in a new law that limits its application to individuals or businesses that are new to the system, while those already in the system are exempt from the new regulation.”
When the drinking age changed from 18 to 21, people between those ages, who could drink under the old law, were allowed to retain the right to legally consume alcohol under a grandfather clause, but there has been no talk of the grandfather clause for this new law.
