Why this petition matters

Started by Direct Action Everywhere Milwaukee

2020 marked the 18th year for the “Hunt to Cure MS.”  The event is hosted annually by Rabbits Unlimited, LTD and benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Every year hunters in attendance needlessly kill hundreds of rabbits. Children are also invited to participate in the killing contest.  Activists gathered footage of last year's event:

Footage from Friday, January 31, 2020 shows activists attempts to have a conversation with the Wisconsin Multiple Sclerosis Society staff. Activists asked to speak directly with Wisconsin National Multiple Sclerosis President Danelle O'Neill, who has neglected to return many phone calls and emails. The door was answered by a staff member who said she would return, but never did. After waiting for 30 minutes, activists finally decided to leave, but then saw that the police had been called by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society staff.

The general public does not want this type of event to continue. Activists have made many attempts to contact both the Wisconsin chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as well as national headquarters. They refuse to address the public opposition of wildlife hunting contests as fundraisers. They need to speak up and make ethical stances on how donations are generated on their behalf.

In Wisconsin, there is no prohibition to wildlife killing contests. These contests use various tactics to attract, manipulate, confuse, and even temporarily blind wildlife in order to kill as many animals as possible. Wisconsin state Sen. Fred Risser proposed a bill that would eliminate wildlife hunting contests. The Humane Society of the United States has been actively working on this issue and hopes to see these contests banned.

Please tell National Multiple Sclerosis Society that killing is not kindness. They must take a stance that's ethical and say “no” to animal killing contest fundraisers.
