Plastic-Free Amazon Packaging
Plastic-Free Amazon Packaging
Why this petition matters
The problem: Amazon ships over a million packages a day. The packaging efficiency and waste vary greatly. Sometimes the box is the perfect size and there's a little bit of filler paper and other times you get a boat-sized box filled with plastic cushioning for your box of tea. Did I pay for tea or a box of plastic pillows?
The solution: "Plastic-Free Packaging" Check Box. Amazon should have a box you can check if you want your package to be free from plastic cushioning. (Filler paper is still acceptable.) Those plastic cushioning pillows take up extra space and thus you'll also get a smaller sized box if they are replaced with paper.
Why does it matter?: Plastic packaging cushions are not recycled because there is not a market for recycled plastic film. Since they are lightweight and thin they are more likely to be unintentionally littered and end up in our ocean. Considering the number of packages Amazon sends, this small change can have a huge impact on our ocean.
