The focus of this petition is to pressure Airbnb to change the extenuating circumstances policy that adversely affects hosts. 

Currently, all guests are covered by this policy that allows for cancellations and full refunds due to a large variety of issues (natural disaster, canceled flights, car accident, pandemic, hospital visits, sick family member, death of relative, etc.).

This policy should instead become an optional travel insurance add on that a guest can pay for when booking to protect their booking. This protects all 3 parties due to unforeseen circumstances, whereas the current policy leaves hosts and Airbnb bearing the burden of cancellations with no buy in from the guest side.

This is a simple solution and one that needs to be implemented to stop something like the current crisis facing hosts around the world from happening again. Many of us left with mounting bills and businesses in peril and no recourse in sight. As hosts, these changes are critical to ensuring our economic protection as small business owners and support our continued investment, stability, and growth.
