The current Nigerian economic policies allocate all most all oil ventures at the hands of the government. This leads to corruption and oil capital to being poured into the southern Nigerian states, while the northern states are deprived of such resources. This deprivation grants the northern states with literacy rates of 15%, while southern states have over 90%. A new policy which would incorporate parts of the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB), a more progressive tax policy, and a more inclusive allotment of funding to the northern states must be introduced to end this gruesome disparity.
