Cover the sewage tanks to save animals' lives
Cover the sewage tanks to save animals' lives
Why this petition matters
Too many animals are at risk of losing their lives if Anglian Water's sewage tanks remain open and without some form of covering (be this solid or grated), and this needs to change.
Animals, particularly smaller dogs, are at risk if they access Anglian Water's sewage treatment works and fall into tanks, which can be extremely deep - taller than any human being - and low to the ground. Though animals should not have access to these premises, they do, likely through gaps in surrounding fences, and this is something Anglian Water, if not local councils, should acknowledge and seek to fix.
One of my own dogs recently lost her life when she got lost on a walk, and fell into a tank at the Chantry sewage treatment works - one easily accessible, without a tall edge - that she could not escape from. She would still be alive today if those tanks were covered in any way. It's too late for her, but it won't be for other animals if these tanks are covered, preventing future accidents and pain.
If Anglian Water are unable or unwilling to cover their sewage tanks for any reason, an explanation as to why is kindly sought.
Note: This petition does not attempt to accuse Anglian Water of any wrongdoing, but rather ask that they consider making an important change to their treatment works that could save lives.
