Why this petition matters

Started by Julian Gonzalez

Hello!

My name is Julian Gonzalez and I am the 2019-2020 Associated Students President at the University of California, Riverside. I also happen to be a hopeful graduate of the Class of 2020.

Recently, it has come as a blindside the abrupt decision our campus leadership has made in regards to OUR commencement. They have decided to hold OUR commencement ceremony in a completely different city to "combat" complaints they have received from previous graduates, staff, and faculty. Furthermore, another proposed change is that no graduate name will be read aloud, that traditionally, commemorates the blood, sweat and tears every student has put into their time here at UCR just to have this one moment. Especially, as it is a night of celebration, not only for students, but for family and friends as well.

Yet, once again, this was all done with ZERO student input.

This is not only unfair, but our administration is in the process of robbing a moment many students and their families have sacrificed for. It is disappointing to know that after investing so much and making UCR the great university it is, that again, we have been left in the dark.

Please show your support to keep the traditional location and ceremony for the 2020 UCR Commencement and for those classes that follow by signing your name to this petition.

I look forward to hearing everyones name, and celebrating you and your families' sacrifices as you walk across the stage at YOUR commencement.

Best Regards,

Julian Gonzalez

2019-2020 ASUCR President
