Why this petition matters

Started by Ronet Harewood

11th August 2014, Salt Lake City (Utah), Dillon Taylor was shot in broad daylight and handcuffed afterwards by Officer Cruz as he bled to death in broad daylight, this was caught on the Police body cam and no justice was served for his killing. Dillon Taylor didn't respond to the police as he was walking away from them, this is due to him listening to music playing in his headphones at the time, this is another prime example of police brutality with the US.

When the family sued the SLC Police department the Judge dismissed the case claiming that Cruz "did not violate a statutory or constitutional right" and he can't be held responsible for "Plaintiffs’ municipal liability claim". Hence his killer has not been held accountable for the crime he committed till this very day.

The police were in the area responding to a 9-1-1 report of a man in possession of a gun, Dillon lifted his shirt which showed no visible evidence of a gun, which the police later found out after his unethical murder. The Family have protested and sued and haven't had the result that was deserved.

This petition is to ensure that Office Cruz will receive a sentence for the unethical actions that lead to Dillion Taylor's death.
