Blood bike volunteers replaced by private firm in £14m deal
Why this petition matters
Chairman of WSBB Mark Lavery said: “Through our own enquiries we have found out that UHCW has chosen to pay a company for work we have previously done free-of-charge.
“We are devastated that the NHS could make such an award without consulting us.
“We have completed over 7,000 calls in all-weather conditions since we were founded in 2012 and it is estimated we have saved UHCW nearly £700,000 in that time.
If a petition gets 10,000 signatures, the government will respond ... If a petition gets 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament
We would like to be consulted for discussion with regards to why this decision to outsource the service was made and why when Warwickshire & Solihull Blood Bikes are a team of 80 volunteer rider and drivers who are dedicated to providing a weekday out of hours service and 24/7 weekend and Bank holiday cover supporting the NHS in transporting essential Plasma, Tissue Samples, Spinal fluids, X-Rays, Licensed drugs and any other products than can be carried safely on a motorcycle to hospitals throughout the Warwickshire & Solihull area.
Blood bikes Britain in 2017 had 3,372 volunteers, 31 member groups and did 73,617 runs.
I started this petition because I care about the NHS and keeping it free for all, this is yet another step towards privatisation
