Why this petition matters
Please sign this petition to ensure that the 500,000 eligible Canadians who are still not receiving their Disability tax credit aren't abandoned.
FACT: 60% of eligible Canadians aren't benefiting from the Disability Tax Credit. (University of Calgary, School of Public Policy 2018)
FACT: Disability Benefit Professionals:
- Have assisted over 100,000 Canadians apply for the Disability Tax Credit.
- Do not charge upfront fees.
- Are only paid when successful.
- Abide by a professional code of conduct.
- Can work for up to 3 years to get a claim approved.
- Invest significant money in awareness.
- Coordinate with medical practitioners in completing the application.
- Analyze up to 10 years of tax history to maximize the benefit.
- Coordinate with family members to maximize the credit by utilizing sponsorship and transfer capacities.
- Coordinate with the medical practitioner 4-12 weeks post-filing to complete CRA follow up documentation.
- File objections when CRA unfairly denies the claim.
- Attend at the Tax Court of Canada when CRA unfairly denies the objection.
FACT: CRA.......
- Provided incorrect information up to 84% of the time on certain questions (Auditor General)
- Does not answer 2/3 of callers. (Auditor General)
- Proposes regulations that go against Number 15 of its own Taxpayer Bill of Rights: You have the right to be represented by a person of your choice.
- In 2017 suddenly started to decline all Diabetes claims without explanation.
- Did not give the Association of Canadian Disability Benefit professionals (ACDBP) a seat on its Disability Advisory Committee.
- Received an "F" on handling the Disability Tax credit process. (Senate report 2018)
Without professionals, Canadians will be forced to either:
- Risk paying upfront fees, regardless of results.
- Fend for themselves against CRA.
With professionals Canadians are allowed to choose to either:
- Go through the Disability Tax Credit process independently.
- Have representation from their accountant, lawyer, financial advisor or Disability Benefit Professional.
