End FL Exemption for Religious Services in Covid 19 Stay-at-Home Order
End FL Exemption for Religious Services in Covid 19 Stay-at-Home Order
Why this petition matters
On April 1, 2020, Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis declared religious services conducted in churches, synagogues and houses of worship are “essential business” and therefore exempt from his stay-at-home executive order. In the U.S. (e.g., New Rochelle, NY) and abroad (e.g., Seoul, South Korea and Haut-Rhin, France) temples, churches, and mosques have been the scene of the "superspreader" phenomenon whereby one person infected with COVID-19 rapidly infects a large group. Allowing such large gatherings to be exempt puts at risk not only the members of that house of worship, but everyone they come into contact with subsequently (grocery store clerk, etc.). We need to remove this exemption in order to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, save lives, and shorten the quarantine period.
