Why this petition matters

Started by As Is

For years DJs have been unable to share mixes anywhere online due to copyright issues (with a few exceptions).  It's always been something we accepted, but never understood the reasoning behind.

For most DJs, our real passion is finding, arranging, and sharing songs in a unique way that can't be duplicated via a "playlist".  This art seems to have become less understood and appreciated with each passing year.

Beyond the Recording Industry's inability to appreciate the invaluable work that we do for music and artists, they are wasting money finding technology to stop us from DJing anywhere but the places they deem to be suitable.

Like much of the world now, DJ’s are not only out of work, but deprived of our ability to do what we love...share music with others.  It wasn't enough to stop us from sharing mixes all of these years, now they stop us from DJing for anyone.

Someone with vision needs to look at this.  Record labels have the technology to identify the songs, and they have the ability to count them as plays (the same way they do already).  At the very least, and especially during this trying time, the Recording Industry should end the embargo on DJs.

If you are a DJ, have enjoyed a DJ Mix that turned you on to a song that you would have never heard, or if you have enjoyed a live stream during this new reality that we are currently living in, please sign. The time has come to empower DJ’s to do what we do best.
Let DJ’s DJ.
