Since its start, Patriot Act has served as a vital point of education. Where news media is a poor reflection of the actuality of our local and global politics, economy, and social climates, this show shined for its focus on exposing the truth and only the truth. Engaging, well-rounded, and more purely informative than any news outlet, Patriot Act was, and continues to be, a show that educates its viewers on topics media doesn't take risks covering.

But it's more than that. Hasan Minhaj acted as the access point for South Asians to comfort in the news. With him, brown people could let go of feelings of self consciousness, be relieved of criminalization on behalf of a few terrible figures. Hasan Minhaj serves, openly with Patriot Act, as the guidance figure a lot of brown viewers needed to feel comfortable growing up with a two-sided identity growing up in the West. He is an inspiration to young brown kids and a teacher to both the young and old alike.

Without this show, without him being a constant in the possibility of accessibility and in the newsroom, we are thrust back into a world where brown representation is minimal and unimportant, where our minds in media do not matter. But we do matter. Our voice matters. Our comfort matters. There are white politicians, white children growing up watching white news anchors, white people in every single newsroom pretending they can understand what it is like to grow up not seeing themselves anywhere in the world. Don't take the opportunity for feeling a sense of belonging to the news and media worlds away.
