Why this petition matters

Started by Marc Selby

Wigan Warriors are the biggest name in the Rugby League world. When somebody says “Wigan”, the chances are the first thought would be the rugby team.

Everybody knows about Central Park but what about where it all began? Wigan played at “Folly Field” on Upper Dicconson Street between 1872 and 1886 and hosting Cup Finals and nurturing players such as James Slevin, Charlie Samuels and Jack Anderton. Today nobody knows it was there.

This petition is aimed to support the erection of a Blue Plaque on the site of Folly Field. This area is Culturally and Historically important to Wigan’s Heritage and that of the game of Rugby League itself. The more people supporting this cause the greater voice.
